deeTone records was started in 1998 by Keith Dunn
who is a songwriter, harmonica player, singer and producer. Keith
has
been active in the blues field for over thirty years. As he explains:
“I started deeTone records in order to avoid the plantation,
sharecropping mentality that sometimes exists in the record business.
Because I make my own records, I am independent and not bound by
the political or economic ideas and prejudices of others.”
How does all of this benefit you, the listening public?
“The benefit is that deeTone records can
provide you with a different type of recording; one that comes
directly from the heart. deeTone records gives me the freedom
to produce, record and make available to you, an album like “Alone
With The Blues.”
“Alone With The Blues” features 14
songs performed with voice and harmonica in a solo, one
musician playing alone format. After listening back to
the first songs, I loved the sound. I decided to make it more challenging
and use this solo format for the entire album.”
“I am told that this is the first time that a complete blues
album has been recorded using vocals and harmonica alone. In any
case, an entire album of voice, harmonica and nothing else, is special.”
The songs were recorded in one day without overdubs
using tube amplification and an analog recording system. As analog
sound is warmer and more personal than that of a digital recording,
the sound of this record wraps itself around you. You feel as though
you are in the studio with Keith.
The challenge of making a solo harmonica CD added to the overall
excitement and passion of Keith’s recording session. deeTone
records is certain that you will hear and feel this when you listen
to “Alone With The Blues”.
